You know what is worse than watching Leonardo DiCaprio getting nominated for an Oscar so many times, only to go home empty-handed? Zee Cine Awards 2018.
The reality behind the award functions has been revealed million times- stars presence. It can be in form of a paid dance performance, too many requests or in return for an award.
Two days back, there was a big bang show of Zee Cine awards 2018.
It looks like a big planned event.
Priyanka Chopra flew all the way from Hollywood for this. All big stars, all glittery showbiz.
What’s the objective of having an award show when we are not honoring the deserving talent?
You will be shocked to know
VARUN DHAWAN got THE BEST ACTOR award for…wait for it…BADRINATH KI DHULHANIYA!
GOLMAAL AGAIN was awarded as the BEST MOVIE
And ANIL KAPOOR for the BEST ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Other awardees are worth digesting but these are really surprising.
2017 was a game-changing year when it comes to movies.
Only movies with a great content and act did well. Not recognizing them is definitely a kind of disregard for the talent.
The movies like Newton, Barailley Ki Barfi, A Death in the Gunj (Forget Awards Backing Independent Movies) Secret Superstar, Shubh Mangal Savdhan, Hindi Medium, Lipstick Under My Burkha, Tumhari Sulu couldn’t survive in front of Golmaal Again? Seriously?
I understand the business concept that the actors’ presence is compensated by a paid dance performance or an award. But, I wonder what were Rohit Shetty or the producers looking with this mention??
The Best Actor Sad Story
Apparently, the performances of Aayushman Khurana, Vikrant Massey and Raj Kumar Rao were not exceptional like Varun Dhawan’s.
Alia Bhatt is undoubtedly one of the best actors we have today but was she the BEST ACTOR in 2017? That too getting one for BADRINATH KI DULHANIYA?
Anil Kapoor for Mubarakaan?
Anil Kapoor is a great actor and a big fan of his but should the award go to him instead of maybe Pankaj Tripathi in Newton, Deepak Dobriyal in Hindi Medium or Divyendu Sharma in Toilet?
These are just on top my mind. Many more names can be tough and eligible competitors here.
Secret Superstar team got few awards. Fortunately, one of the producers’ for the movie was Zee Studios. Otherwise, it might have also slipped from the list.
No wonder, awards are not respected and taken seriously anymore!
We all know the rigged reality of awards but making it so open and patulous (almost audacious for a cinephile like me) is really surprising.
You can actually pay the actors for coming (like we have heard and read a lot of times) and make it a starry performance night. Nevertheless, people will watch it.
I will be really surprised if TRPs of these award shows is still high like before. If yes, god bless the number of TV boxes in Indian houses now. The standard of living has really improved! (All Modi fans, please don’t start here).
To save a little bit of their credibility, they had some randomly named categories like EXTRAORDINARY IMPACT AWARDS to celebrate few worthy names- Taapsee Pannu, Raj Kumar Rao and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.
And thank god no MSG movie was released this year. To oblige their political and personal connections, they would have even recognized that with awards.
The choices and verdict in Zee Cine Awards have way lesser logic than Ekta Kapoor’s serials script.
And I reaaaaallly think they honored SRK genuinely not for a starry appearance. That would look little weird and shallow, right?
I always had a doubt: When they say viewers’ choice, I am not sure who and how many are those viewers actually make an effort to pick up their phones to call/SMS.
I am not someone who likes only ‘meaningful’ movies. I like Happy New Year, Guddi, Main Hoon Na as much I like Death in The Gunj, Raincoat, Masaan.
So, even from ‘entertainment’ point of view, these awards do not make sense to me.
Do they to you??
