If you’ve been following the news in the past few days, you know what happened in Panchkula, parts of Haryana, and Punjab on Friday afternoon. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the head of the Dera Sacha Sauda, was convicted of rape in a case from 2002. As soon as the conviction became public knowledge, followers of the Dera, who had congregated in large groups in Panchkula, ran riot through the peaceful residential city.
Over 30 people died in the ensuing violence, and over 250 people were injured. Convicted of rape, Singh has now been sent to jail which has left the future of the Dera in question. While he has millions of followers, there are only a couple of contenders for the leadership position. One of these contenders is Honeypreet Insan, the woman who accompanied the rape convict when he was being airlifted to Rohtak.
All About Papa’s Angel
According to reports, Honeypreet is the Dera chief’s adopted daughter and is his close confidant. Looking at her social media accounts, you might feel a sense of disdain about your own accomplishments in life. Apparently, this “multi-talented” individual is a philanthropist, director, editor and actress. Of course, her first achievement is being “Papa’s Angel.” She is also “Passionate to transform my Rockstar Papa’s directions into actions.”
Honeypreet’s birth name was Priyanka Taneja and she became a follower of the Dera when she married Vishwas Gupta, also a follower, in 1999. Singh adopted her when she complained of dowry harassment. In 2011, her husband filed a petition for her custody.
Singh has three biological children with his wife – two daughters named Amanpreet and Charanpreet, and a son named Jasmeet. He reportedly adopted Honeypreet in 2009.
Honeypreet has a large following on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram where she mostly sings praises of her “GuruPa.” She also has a website where the first picture you see is of her aiming what can only be a toy gun and wearing a wig which belongs in the 70s.
The website describes her as “the great daughter of an amazing father” and elaborates on her many roles, especially in the film business.
“Honeypreet Insan excelled as an editor too while assisting her dad during the editing of MSG – The Messenger and its sequel MSG 2 – The Messenger. She took the whole task of editing for the recently released movie MSG – The Warrior Lion Heart along with her dad. She minutely learnt and grasped each and every technique of film editing in a very short span of time. From VFX supervision to sound editing, from dubbing to video transitioning, she managed every aspect of the movie as an editor.”
What can we say? Who needs film schools, right? The website claims that she learnt everything from her adoptive father.
“All credits goes to her Dad for unveiling the acting skills in her and train her so well that she can stand at par with renowned professional actors… She being a keen observer and quick learner noticed even the minute details of direction…With her ability of framing the shots with different lengths and angles, power of visualizing the scenes, finding perfection in sets, outfits etc, she emerged as an amazingly successful director.”
It is a known fact that Honeypreet’s doesn’t go unheard in the Dera. With her “revered father” now in jail, it seems likely that the leadership of the Dera will fall into her hands.
